Nami Island was the perfect place for “couple watching“. I spotted so many couples in matching outfits (awwww!) queuing to get their photos taken where the main characters from Winter Sonata had their first kiss. I loved all the little references to Winter Sonata around the island.
Even though Nami Island isn’t officially its own country, it definitely feels like its own unique little utopia, barely a stone’s throw away from busy Seoul. For anyone wanting to escape the hectic city life and enjoy some nature, this is the place to be.
I enjoyed the rich nature by walking near the lake and wandering through sequoia lined streets. Everything was perfect from the weather, the crowd and the inclusiveness. The rich nature in Nami Island provided me with a much-needed escape from the city life. The island offers something special for everyone in every season whether it be winter, autumn, spring or summer! I swear, the place is amazingly beautiful. Adrenaline thrill is a definite thing!
Ways to travel to Nami Island
Yongsan Station (용산역) → Sangbong Stn (상봉역)
Transfer to Gyeongchun Line
Sangbong Stn (상봉역) → Gapyeong Stn (가평역)
Yongsan Stn (용산역) → Gapyeong Stn (가평역)
A more direct option that cuts the travelling time almost in half is the ITX. T-money does not pay for rides on the ITX so you’ll need to purchase a separate ticket from the Korail counters. We used our Korail Pass for this which includes free seat reservation. You can check the schedule from the Korail booking page by typing in Yongsan and Gapyeong under the ‘Departure/Arrive’ fields.
